Performance

The range of powertrain options for the Forte allows drivers to customize their experience based on their desire for efficiency versus power. Kia offers two engines for the lineup. There is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder inline motor that produces 147 horsepower. It also achieves an EPA-estimated 30 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway in the most efficient configuration. The three trims that use the 2.0-liter engine employ a continuously variable transmission to maximize fuel economy.

Kia also provides a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger that delivers more pop on the GT trim. It delivers 201 horsepower, which is more than enough to motivate a compact car. There is a version with a seven-speed automatic transmission in a dual-clutch setup. It hits an EPA-estimated 27 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. American drivers who want the increasingly elusive manual transmission can also order the Forte GT with a six-speed. It achieves an estimated 22 mg city and 31 highway.

Sporty Looks

Such a fun car needs to look the part. Kia's current design language is angular without getting too linear. The Forte has a small grille in a winged design that integrated the headlamps at the tips. It also features a sizeable air dam and angular coves that house the fog lights. In profile, the Forte is an aerodynamic sedan that emphasizes dark accents. Motorists from the Loveland area can select one of seven body paint colors for their Forte.

The interior also has a fun vibe. Chrome and silver accents line the dash, control knobs, shifter, and steering wheel buttons. A 4.2-inch digital panel in the instrument cluster is standard across all the Forte trims. You can also choose the standard eight-inch infotainment display or a 10.25-inch setup.

The Kia Forte seats five people. The bottom two trims feature black woven cloth. The third-highest trim offers black cloth and SynTex with gray stitching. There is also a full SynTex option. Finally, the GT uses the same setup but with red stitching. The SynTex-only seating material is the only option for the manual GT.

Technology

All trims in the Forte lineup include compatibility with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth to keep you entertained while driving around Mason. You also can choose an infotainment system that supports in-dash navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio.

One front USB port is standard across the lineup. You also can purchase a Forte with a rear USB charging port. Another option is a wireless charging pad for your phone. The default audio setup for the Forte includes four speakers. A six-speaker system is also available. For a premium experience, you can choose the eight-speaker configuration that includes an integrated subwoofer. It generates 320 watts of power and uses the vaunted Harmon Kardon audio system.

Safety
