Performance
As a hybrid, you can drive on gas or switch to electric power when fully charged. The 1.6-liter engine offers 139 horsepower and 106 pound-feet of torque. If you buy the plug-in version, you get an additional 41 horsepower. On a full tank of gas and a fully charged electric battery, you can go 599 miles without stopping for gas or charging the battery when you're commuting to Dayton.
Interior and Exterior Design
Fit five people inside, plus some cargo room for groceries in the back as you drive from Kings Mill to Montgomery. The 60/40 split rear seat allows you to fold the rear seats almost completely flat if you need less passenger space and more cargo room. The hatchback lifts for easy access to the cargo area.
Technology
Despite its smaller size, the new Kia Niro hybrid has incorporated a lot of technology into its interior. Depending on the trim level, you will have a 4.3-inch control display, an 8-inch touchscreen display, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen display with navigation and Kia Connect services. There's a suite of driver assist features like forward collision warning, blind spot collision warning, hill start assist, and downhill braking assist. Android connection for Android devices is available on most trim levels.
Trim Levels
The Niro hybrid has five trim levels ranging in price from around $26,590 to $34,890. There is no difference in the engine or performance, as all Niro trim-level models have the same hybrid engine and gas tank capacity. However, there are differences between exterior and interior extras.
Niro LX
The LX is the base model for the Niro. It comes in six exterior colors for the upgraded trim levels. Its interior also has dark gray/ black cloth upholstery. It is also the only trim level with an eight-inch touchscreen display inside the vehicle.
Niro EX
The EX gets an upgrade with its forward collision assist feature, warning you that you may hit a pedestrian or cyclist or turn at a junction where you need to look better. It has highway navigation assist and smart cruise control with Stop & Go around curves upgrades from the LX. Rear parking assist warning prevents rear accidents while attempting to park the vehicle. There are lots of other tech upgrades from the LX that the LX does not have.
Niro EX Touring
The EX Touring has 18-inch metal alloy wheels, something the EX and LX do not have. Satin chrome window surrounds and the front bumper has a chrome skid plate. Like the EX, it has eight exterior color options and two interior upholstery color options.
Niro SX
As the second highest trim level, the SX incorporates almost all the features of the lower trim models, except for the eight-inch touchscreen and 18-inch metal alloy wheels. The SX has a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, Kia Connect, and the standard wheels. The SX is also the first trim level with the front parking assist warning system to avoid hitting anything in front of you while parking.
Niro SX Touring
The SX Touring detours from the SX only on the wheel size and exterior trim materials. However, the SX Touring, like the SX, comes in ten exterior color options, with two two-tone options. All possible driver assist features are included in the SX Touring, including a few unavailable in lower trim levels.
